Cristina is an interdisciplinary researcher working on issues of Environmental Sustainability in the Marine Environment. Her research interests focus on the human dimensions of fisheries and marine protected areas (MPAs). She has been involved in several EU projects focusing on the ecosystem approach to fisheries management. Her general research interests and research activity focus on MPAs, small-scale fisheries management; coastal community development, co-management and community-based resource management, sustainable coastal activities, fisheries and aquaculture socio-economics, Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Ecosystem-Based Coastal Management, stakeholders participation in the decision-making process and governance.
Cristina’s research experience includes questionnaire-based interview surveys of the fishing and aquaculture industries, econometric analyses of socio-economic data, behavioural economics.
